Art and Wellness
I want this blog to come into existence sharing my approach to creating and interpreting art, including all the tidbits I've learned along the way. Yes, you read that right—we interpret or read art, often from left to right for beginners. However, once you develop a trained eye, or if the artist intends for you to scan the piece in a specific way, the experience changes.
Whatever medium you choose—be it oil, pastels, charcoal, or watercolors—you want to move beyond basic understanding to mastery. My goal is to guide you through that journey, offering insights, techniques, and a deeper appreciation in art and the nuances allowing you to implement it in your chosen medium. Together, we'll unlock the skills and confidence we need to create with intention and express our unique artistic voice.
Art is more than just technique; it's about conveying emotion, telling a story, and leaving a piece of yourself in every stroke or mark. Art can also be a powerful tool for mental health, offering an outlet to process emotions, reduce stress, and find a sense of calm in the chaos.
Along the way, we'll explore not just how to create but why we create—delving into the inspiration, the process, and the meaning behind our work. Together, we'll embrace the therapeutic side of creativity, learning how to use our craft as a form of self-care.
Perspective, in particular, is absolutely essential when it comes to drawing. That’s why I’ll introduce it early on in my lessons. But before diving into perspective, I’ve been working on something that will prepare you for it—shapes and their complements. This foundational understanding will help perspective click, so you won’t find yourself scouring the internet for incomplete explanations.
I constantly refine my teachings—replaying lessons in my mind, sharing them with friends and family, and revising until they truly capture the essence of the subject. However, I’m only human, and my lessons will evolve over time as I learn and adjust. My goal is to teach in a way that not only explains but fully embodies the heart of each topic, ensuring nothing is lost in translation.
